My journey to becoming a digital business owner!

Hello! My name is Hailu Mekonnen. I came to the US from Ethiopia in February of 2013 following my wife. As we soon became parents of a wonderful boy, we choose to take turns as shift workers to raise our family. I have worked in different roles ranging from being a factory worker, security officer to transportation and delivery services. I am so grateful for each and every opportunity and role that helped me support and raise my family. The fact that our son was later diagnosed with mild autism required us to spend more of our time and attention to his special needs and provision of care. As part of a hard working family, my wife and I have always been looking out for better opportunities. In light of this and along with my passion for learning, I have been fortunate enough to go to nearby community college to learn new skills with full financial aid to achieve our dream.

It was in the past year of 2020 that COVID-19 affected many households following waves of shut downs, self-isolation and company downsizing putting more pressure on families like ours. In addition to reduced household income, the effect of school shut downs leave us with no option but continue home-schooling our son and myself virtually. The past year has also been challenging to me as my families near and afar has directly been affected besides the tragic loss of our global citizens since this pandemic hits us.

However, it was also amidst this pandemic that an opportunity knocked our door giving us lenses to look further into the solutions enabling us see the potential of the digital trend that our world has evolved into. I then took a chance in shifting the gear to changing the pandemics challenge into opportunities. I joined the digital world by building partnership (a strong online business franchise) with an established global company that leverages the internet and social media platforms as a marketing and automation tool to generate sales. I wouldn’t have been here today to witness the chance that grabbed my attention a few months ago while an Ad like this one was running in my Facebook news feed. As I was very coachable, I soon start learning to benefit from this opportunities by tapping into the online space just beginning to live up to my dreams.
