"The Narrow Corner" (1933) 1st movie on the Dvd-R ... transfer of my SP Vhs save, from channel that aired movies commercial free, of this UNreleased on dvd classic film rarity.

Synopsis: A Somerset Maugham story was adapted for The Narrow Corner, a film about Man's inability to escape his destiny. Douglas Fairbanks Jr. plays a fugitive from Australian justice, wanted for accidentally killing a man. He escapes to the East Indies in a ship rented by his father. Among the people Fairbanks meets and befriends are a scholar (Reginald Owen) and his daughter (Patricia Ellis). The fugitive falls in love with the girl, which prompts her fiance (the ever-jilted Ralph Bellamy) to commit suicide. Thus Fairbanks realizes that, by running from the consequences of his actions, he has brought misfortune to others. Narrow Corner was remade, with tighter censorship restrictions in effect, as Isle of Fury (36). {amg}

"Isle of Fury" (1936) 2nd movie on the Dvd-R ... transfer of my SP Vhs save, from channel that aired movies commercial free, of this UNreleased on dvd classic film rarity.

Synopsis: Based on the W. Somerset Maugham novel The Narrow Corner, the melodramatic adventure Isle of Fury is one of Humphrey Bogart's early starring roles. Valentine "Val" Stevens (Bogart), a reformed criminal who makes a living by diving for pearls in the south seas, gets married to Lucille Gordon (Margaret Lindsay). Meanwhile, Detective Eric Blake (Donald Woods) is sent to bust Val, but he gets shipwrecked in a terrible storm at sea. Val saves his life and rescues the ship's captain Paul Graetz. Eric falls in love with Lucille and makes friends with Val through the course of several sea tragedies before he realizes that he is supposed to arrest him. He then has to make a painful decision regarding his assignment and his sweetheart. E.E. Clive stars as Dr. Hardy, a doctor who offers frequent bible quotes and literary parables. {amg}
