The Five Golden Rules when setting your sobriety goals are:

1) Set goals that motivate you
2) Set SMART goals
3) Put your goals in writing where you can see them every day.
4) Make an action plan
5) Stick with it!

We want to go into a little bit more detail about how to exactly set your SMARTgoals so you can be on your journey to sobriety this year.

Let's dive straight into it!

Setting SMART goals means you can clarify your ideas, focus your efforts, use your time and resources productively, and increase your chances of achieving what you want in life.

To make sure your goals are clear and reachable, each one should be:

Specific (simple, sensible, significant).
Measurable (meaningful, motivating).
Achievable (agreed, attainable).
Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).
Time-bound (time-based, time-limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).

If you set your goals like this, it will make it way easier to achieve them but most importantly it will help you stay on track because as everyone knows, nothing good comes easy.
