This is a highest-quality casting reproduction of an original wood-carving in Walnut wood, by Karl Rothammer, “one of North America’s finest wood sculptors”. Individually hand finished, no two are exactly alike. This is believed to have been a privately-commisioned, limited quantity one-time production, circa 1976. There is a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) on the back, which includes a biography of Mr. Rothammer, who was already an accomplished sculptor when he immigrated to Canada from Bavaria in 1951. However the certificate is not signed.

The scene is believed to depict a Mennonite couple out for an afternoon jaunt in their horse and buggy, in rural Canada, likely “Mennonite Country” in Elmira Ontario. The title “Mennonite Jaunt” is based on seller’s research and may not be exactly accurate, the piece itself bears no title. The piece shows exquisite fine detail for which Mr. Rothammer is famous.

Oval, 8x10 inches. Rich walnut tones. Handcrafted in Canada (Amnicon). Pristine. (There are two small indentation marks on the back where the hangar was re-positioned for better balance. The visible surface is perfect, new condition.)

Location: Ottawa Canada (Kanata Ontario Canada).
